With just 6 days to go, the New7Wonders Foundation releases 'snapshot' of finalists

Asia has made a strong showing as the New7Wonders Foundation releases a list of 10 of the voting’s finalists in advance of the Nov. 11 result.

The 10 sites that have garnered the most votes are, in alphabetical order, the Dead Sea, the Grand Canyon, the Great Barrier Reef, Halong Bay, Jeita Grotto, Jeju, Komodo Island, Puerto Princesa Underground River, Sundarbans and Vesuvius.

"Clearly Asian Finalists are strong at this stage, reflecting the way the world is evolving east, and at the same time I know the actual top 7 will change in the coming days,” said Bernard Weber, President and Founder of New7Wonders in press a statement. “We remain excited and intrigued to see who will emerge as the provisional New7Wonders of Nature on 11/11/11."

Many on Jeju will be elated that the island has made the top 10.

Eamonn Fitzgerald, Head of Communication for New7Wonders, said in the same press statement that given the last campaign for the New Seven Man-made Wonders, the last week was crucial. "Many changes took place in the final week and days so the top 10 we have announced today will certainly change.”

“With millions of votes still set to come in, Finalists who are not in today's top 10 could yet make it into the chosen seven," he added.

The voting for the New7Wonders of Nature ends at 8:11 p.m., local time (11:11 a.m., GMT) on Nov. 11, and tentative results will be announced at 4:07 a.m., local time on Nov. 12 (7:07 p.m., GMT on Nov. 11).
